The school at Children’s Village is closed for winter between mid-December and mid-February and for a week in mid-June for the summer holidays. Lepcha Cottage is open throughout the year.


By Air/Rail: The nearest airport is Bagdogra (124 kms) in West Bengal. It is connected by air to New Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati. The two closest railway stations are Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri (NJP) connecting Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati and other important cities in India.

From Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri (NJP)/ Siliguri stations (both in West Bengal), you can take a share taxi/ bus to Gangtok (Sikkim) town centre. The journey takes about 4 hours. There is also a helicopter service plying between Bagdogra and Gangtok.

From Gangtok town you can hire a taxi to Lepcha Cottage or Children's Village.

By Road: Gangtok is well connected by road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Siliguri. The Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) plies regular bus services from all major cities and towns in North Bengal to Gangtok. Private and shared taxi services are also available from these towns.. Good motorable roads connect Gangtok with Siliguri 114 kms, Kolkata 725 kms and Darjeeling 139 kms.

From Gangtok town, you can get a taxi to Chandmari, where Ms. Keepu’s Lepcha Cottage is located (about 3 kms.). You could also hire a taxi from Gangtok town centre to Chongay (about 9 kms.) where the Children’s Village is situated.
